Workshops, talks and meetings on the Adriatic Riviera, dedicated to auteur cinema. A challenge to look at the world, to define your own point of view. To make a different and authentic kind of cinema, together.
For all those who want to question their vision, regardless of their main interests in cinema or their role on a set.
A summer school for everyone who wants to challenge themselves and be carried away by a wave that will bring new practices and methods to produce auteur films.
The third edition of NAUFRAGARE will be in Bellaria Igea Marina (Rimini, Italy) in September 2023.
NAUFRAGARE 2022 theme was “The gaze and the body”
NAUFRAGARE has different main themes each year. In 2021 the main theme was the auteur’s gaze; in 2022 the summer school was focused on filming bodies, how these bodies live in a space and relate to what they have around them.
How we represent bodies and how we relate to their diversity and non-conformity is somehow telling who we are and how we see or want to tell the world, also in film.
NAUFRAGARE is a cinema summer school based on 11 classes: workshops and talks about the gaze and the bodies. How to write about them, how to light them, how to film them, how to direct them.
The students will shot their own small shorts and will be screen at Bellaria Film Festival 2023.
9 days dedicated in the research of a new way to making auteur cinema.
The programme will start with a workshop with a DOP about the cinematography of bodies; then a writing workshop about emotional and physical dynamics between two bodies, and then those dynamics will be filmed during the workshop with different actors with non-comforming physicalities. In the end a workshop about the interaction between a body and the stage space.
During these days the students will meet important guests during the talks and during informal events.

“If a body meet a body, comin’ through the rye, if a body kiss a body, need a body cry?”
An adventure dedicated to the discovery of new writing methods to narrate bodies and represent their multiplicity.
The body is the central basis of writing in cinema: bodies come out, enter, sit, stand, walk, run, live within the scene and give meaning to it (try writing a screenplay without bodies!).
Each body, in its uniqueness, is a bearer of emotions and a story, and when it enters into relationship with another body, also unique in its being, it unleashes a dynamic that, when written, cannot fail to take into account who those bodies are, who carries them.
Writing about bodies, writing of bodies.
During the course, ten relational dynamics between two bodies will be created, imagined and written down: one of these, chosen collectively, will be the subject filmed during the workshop “Image: ethics and aesthetics”.

The body, bodies, have always been at the centre of representation.
Having a look at reality and knowing how to narrate it does not mean simply turning on a camera and filming. Each body, in all its bending, action, torsion, in its emotional dynamic, has a specificity and therefore must be filmed in a different way. Whoever looks at these bodies has the ethical responsibility of the gaze, of conveying the gazes of the spectatorə.
In a bilateral relationship, composing the image on the bodies while the bodies compose the image from within. And when the bodies become two? Their dynamics alter the image, break it, recompose it anew – the author, the camera, thus cannot but establish a relationship with the actor’s body.
During the course of the workshop, each participant will realise their own version, with their own gaze, of the subject realised collectively in writing, with a different pair of actors each time.
The works realised will be screened at the Bellaria Film Festival 2023

Bodies have always been the centre and protagonists of the world of cinema, they are its pivot, the expressive instrument of most films. Bodies have to be shown, looked at, framed in different ways, and different are the ways of telling them over time and over the years of cinema.
A talk with Renato Berta, one of Europe’s greatest directors of photography, on the lighting of bodies and how they are told, through film clips and images that have made the history of cinema.
Free participation, reservation required
9 September | 6.00 p.m. – 8.00 p.m.
Bellaria Igea Marina
A talk dedicated to the most complicated, yet most essential relationship in auteur cinema. This time from the producer’s point of viewə.
Who is crazier? Who wants to make a film or who finds the money to do it? To be able to give space to the world that that authorə brings and help build it together to show it on the screen, to trust the person who leads the production of a film for a common purpose: to find a look, to bring it forward together.
Each film is a separate expressive system, it can have different ways of being conceived and produced. Fundamental to this relationship is the relationship between author and producer.
